Water damage can happen in an instant. Flooding due to natural causes or broken plumbing can inundate your home, office, or business with contaminated flood water. Flood cleanup can be difficult, messy, and even pose health risks. If you have flood water damage, you should not attempt to clean it yourself, it is strongly recommended that you contact a trained professional to clean up the mess. Water Damage Categories

There are three categories used to refer to water damage: white water, grey water, and black water. You don’t need to be a cleanup specialist to know which one you really don’t want to deal with.

White Water

White water damage doesn’t pose as immediate a health risk as the other two, but it still poses problems for your property. While it sounds more like what you did on vacation last year than a serious problem, white water flooding can cause significant damage to your home or property. Typically, white water flooding is caused by overflowing sinks or leaking appliances. This type of water damage still requires drying and cleaning but is often the easiest to fix of the three.

Grey Water

Grey water is sourced from unclean water damage. Sewage from toilets or backed up drains can saturate carpet, wood, walls, and flooring. Chemically treated water spills can also cause grey water damage. Because grey water contaminates everything it comes into contact with, the flood cleanup for it requires more exacting drying, cleaning, and sterilizing methods.

Black Water

Black water sounds as bad as it is. Like the location of some epic battle, black water flooding contains bacteria, molds, and other toxins that are completely unsanitary. The flood cleanup for this type of water damage category includes deep sanitation and industrial strength cleaning tools and chemicals.

Don’t let the names fool you. Grey and black water aren’t necessarily dark in color, just in description. It is extremely difficult to differentiate between the different categories of water contamination simply by looking at the damage. Always contact a qualified water damage specialist to assess your situation.

Water Removal

Once the particular type of damage has been identified, a proper flood cleanup plan can be put into place for your home, office, or business. Our trained technicians will remove any standing water using industrial extractors, air movers, wood floor drying systems, and sub-floor drying systems.

Dry as New

Once the pooled water has been removed, our staff will dehumidify your property. This is one of the most vital steps of the process. Moisture can remain in carpets, carpet pads, wood, flooring, roofing, and even the walls. Only by removing the water molecules from the air and impacted area can all the moisture be removed. We can even use freeze drying, water mitigation, sanitation, and other repair methods to return your property to its pre-flood condition.
